Growing up in Belmont, Port of Spain, all I knew of ‘Indian’ culture was its food and music. The first I loved; the other I had no particular taste for. Indian families in Belmont were either creolized or privately well-off and secluded. We all knew of the Muslim Hosay in St. James, but the life and customs of rural Indians were worlds away, filtering through unflatteringly in calypsos or the catchy tunes of Sundar Popo. Dharmic Sabha to host overseas Ramlila group

November 21, 2015 By GuyanaTimes The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha will be hosting the national Ramlila Council of Trinidad and Tobago for one week, as the entities embark on workshops and performances across the country. The event will start on November 23. ramlila In a statement issued by the Sabha on Friday, the organisation said an 18-member troupe from Trinidad will be performing in the Ramlila productions. Workshops will be held prior to each performance, with participants receiving training in the art of staging Ramlila, costume and prop crafting and other aspects.
